Meeting Change
Due to a scheduling conflict with the Denver Campus Annual Dinner, we will be moving the shul meeting to Thursday, March 2, at 7:30 pm at DAT. As a reminder, the purpose of this meeting will be to put in place some initial pieces of the governance structure as well as to elect a shul board of directors. A candidate slate is being sent out to all shul members along with the procedures for nominating additional candidates for the board. For additional information, please contact Scott Friedman.
New Board Slate of Nominees
Dear Minyan Members,
As you know, we will be meeting this Thursday evening to hold elections for a new minyan board. We are in somewhat of a unique position as we do not have an existing governance structure to guide us through this process. In a typical situation, there would be a staggered board terms by which each year, approximately 1/3 of the board would change over. There would typically be a nominating committee or governance committee that would be charged with finding and nominating new board members.
Since we do not have these typical conventions in place, the steering committee has tried to create a process by which to move forward. Since the steering committee itself is being disbanded, we felt it would be appropriate to have the steering committee perform the duties of the nomination process. We have come up with a slate of candidates for nomination. Additionally, as previously communicated, we have created a process by which any member in good standing can nominate any other member in good standing (or themselves) to the board.
Because we do not yet have bylaws in place and it will take some additional time to complete them, it was felt that we at least need to pass a resolution that provided for some governing structure and guidance for the membership and the new board. The following draft resolution will be voted on at Thursday night’s meeting. Please keep in mind that this resolution can me amended or modified at the meeting. Please review it carefully so that you will have time to consider whether or not you would like to propose any changes.
Moskowitz Kiddush @ EDOS
The kiddush at EDOS on February 11th will be sponsored in memory of Israel and Sylvia Ruda by Jay and Joyce Moskowitz, Ronn and Eva Hull, and Lisa and Jacques Ruda. The entire community is invited to attend.
A new Era for the Denver Jewish Community!
Last week, the membership of the Minyan decided by a vote of 97 percent to adopt a proposal by which we will join together with DAT in an effort to build a growing and thriving Torah observant, religious Zionist community that is built upon the foundation of, and secured by, a successful Denver Academy of Torah, is further strengthened by a vibrant Shul, and will be enhanced by other future member institutions.
By working together with a united leadership, common philosophy, and shared resources, this new partnership has the potential to truly reshape the Orthodox community in Denver. It is a cooperative effort that will both strengthen each institution while at the same time create a new driving force for growth in our community.
