Committee Update

A good shabbas to all!

Here are the latest updates for the Minyan:

1)Aryeh Fischer has accepted an invitation to sit on a committee created by the DAT Board to deal with the future of the school. Because Aryeh felt that this might present a conflict of interest with his work on the steering committee, he has decided to step down. On behalf of the steering committee and the rest of the membership, I want to express a sincere thank you to Aryeh for the tireless work that he has put into this minyan. His participation has been instrumental to our success.

However, lest anyone worry, Aryeh will still be making a major contribution to the Minyan by serving as the chairperson of the Yomim Noraim comittee. That committee will be meeting the begining of next week and will provide more information to everyone as soon as possible. The members of the committee are as follows: Ellyn Hutt, Graeme Bean, Mark Braunstein, Dovey Heller, Jacqueline Lampert. Yasher Koach to Aryeh for putting together such a diverse and talented group to carry out the planning for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

2)The steering committee voted unanimously to appoint Sheldon Ciner to fill the vacated position on the committee. Mazel Tov to Shelly! There is no doubt that he will be a tremendous asset for the minyan and the committee.

3)As part of the effort to ensure member involvement and transparency in the minyan, the committee agreed to open up the steering committee meetings to all members. Additionally, minutes from each meeting will be posted to the website for everyone's review. We will post the date and location of the next meeting as soon as the information is available.

4)There are many needs to deal with as we move forward, and as was discussed at the membership meeting last week, we are setting up committees to deal with many of those needs. I hope that everyone will get involved in the important work that we all have ahead of us. The following committees are being established and need volunteers. Please respond with your interest by next Friday, September 2nd.

Welcome/Friendly environment committee: Chair - Amy Berkowitz Caplan
This committee will work to ensure that the minyan is welcoming, friendly and open to all. Among other things they will work to ensure that newcomers are taken care of and that everyone feels at home at the minyan. If you are interested in getting involved, please email Amy at aberkow3@du.edu.

Youth Committee: Chair - Noah Makovsky
This committee will continue to work on developing one of the cornerstones of our Minyan, youth programing. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Noah at drnoah@pediatricsatlowry.com.

Membership Committee: Chair - Shelly Ciner
This committee will focus on the recruitment and maintenance of the membership. If you are interested in being involved, please contact Shelly at cinerden@aol.com.

Physical Plant Committee: Chairs- Cheryl and Aaron Segall

This committee will deal with all of the items related to the facility itself. This will include the coordination of many of the logistical needs of the Minyan. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Cheryl and Aaron at cmiller06@law.du.edu or ahsegall@hotmail.com.

Communication Committee: Chair - Glenn Zazulia

Ritual Committee: Chair - Nathan Rabinovitch

Chessed Committee:
This committee has been co-chaired by David Slamowitz and Jeff Hecht. David will be stepping down. We thank him for his wonderful work. Jeff will be exploring the coordination of a community-wide chessed committee that crosses institutional lines. As he persues that endeavor, we will still need to have some vollunteers running a chessed committe for the minyan. This committee will assist with bikor cholim, coordinating meals, and provide for a number of other chessed services. If you are interested in chairing this committee or volunteering time, please contact Scott at scottfriedman@comcast.net.

Programming Committee:
This committee will plan a variety of different programs for the Minyan including educational, social, political, athletic, and recreational programing. If you are interested in chairing or serving on this committee, please contact Scott at scottfriedman@comcast.net.

Alternative Options Committee:
As we discussed at the membership meeting, we are setting up a committee to explore the various potential options for the Minyan as it moves forward in terms of physical location, institutional affiliation, etc. If you are interested in participating in this committee, please contact Scott at scottfriedman@comcast.net.

5)Andy Kark will be heading up the effort to move forward with daily minyanim. He will be contacting everyone with more information soon!

A good shabbas to all and stay tuned for more information.
